The Connection

We're connected for life

At Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, we say our residents are Connected for Life. That connection is anchored in our retirement community’s spiritual origin and extends across all aspects of daily life, from the warm bond that exists among residents, to the stimulating lifestyle that continually opens doors to new relationships and new horizons.

A Connection to Community

Being Connected for Life starts with the community itself. In 2017, Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury celebrated 30 years of service to our residents and the greater Winchester community. The original cornerstone for SVWC was laid on October 13, 1985, and the first apartments were opened to residents two years later, in 1987. Over the last quarter-century, the community has steadily expanded its outreach and breadth of services.

A Connection to Security and Peace of Mind

As a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), SVWC offers residents a connection to ongoing health care in one familiar location. Here, residents enjoy independent living, all the while knowing that, should it become necessary, they have immediate access to advanced care in assisted living, the Health Center or our memory support neighborhood.

Our connection to residents is further exemplified by the SVWC Fellowship Fund, which provides confidential financial assistance to qualified residents so they can continue to live here in dignity even in times of financial hardship.

A Connection to the Local Area

Residents feel an immediate connection to the region, thanks to restaurants and recreational opportunities, the natural beauty of the Shenandoah Valley, the city’s proximity to major interstates and airports, and the nearby excitement of Washington, D.C.

Being Connected for Life means SVWC supports deserving community organizations, hosting and sponsoring a wide range of local events. We also invite community groups to use our meeting space. In addition, residents collectively give more than 1,000 hours monthly to a diverse group of area non-profits.

A Connection to an Enriched Lifestyle

Your connection to an enriched lifestyle begins with choosing your apartment or cottage from a variety of versatile floor plans designed to please the most discerning tastes. We offer you a vibrant lifestyle with a beautiful residence, fine dining, satisfying amenities and activities, world-class wellness programming and beautiful common spaces. Monthly fees include HVAC and water utilities, weekly housekeeping, Wi-Fi in our apartment buildings, building maintenance, security and emergency response. Your pets are welcome.
