Wellness & vitality for an active retirement

Philosophy of Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness Philosophy at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury supports the motivation of residents and staff to seek life’s fullest potential.

The Health and Wellness Philosophy of Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury is based on our mission of living life fully and enjoying our God-given years with dignity.  Health is a state of physical, mental and spiritual well-being.  Wellness evolves as individual circumstances change and as we seek to strengthen ourselves in body, mind and spirit.  Wellness is our capacity to make changes through self-reflection, goal-setting and planning for new ways of living.

SVWC offers residents and staff, opportunities to engage in activities and services which provide information and promote involvement in all aspects of healthful living.  SVWC supports relationships in and beyond the local community. Participation in individual and group offerings in the interrelated physical, social, emotional, spiritual, professional and intellectual dimensions of wellness empowers residents to function well, live safely and choose satisfying experiences.

How can you not feel invigorated, relaxing in our Vitality Center, swimming in our indoor pool or unwinding with friends in our hot tub? At Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, we’ve created a state-of-the-art holistic health and wellness center. This top-notch facility offers fitness equipment designed specifically for seniors, exercise classes and a certified staff to coach each resident toward “personal best” goals for strength, mobility, and stamina. Whether you take water aerobics, try a tai chi class, or take a walk on the treadmill on a rainy day, you’ll get individualized instruction for the right results.

For meditative moments, spend some time in the Meditation Room or the Sauna, sink a few golf balls on the SVWC courtyard putting green, or explore our woodlands along the nature trails. The birds sing as the Shenandoah wildflowers sway. Everywhere you turn on our stunning campus in the heart of Northern Virginia, you’ll find something to refresh your soul.

When a resident or staff member is not feeling their best, they have access to our in-house Clinic, which is open five days a week with a full-time LPN and a Nurse Practitioner. Why leave the building for a minor cut or cold symptoms when you can walk down the hall and be seen and treated, or given a prescription, by our professional staff. There is a Dentist, an Optometrist, an Audiologist, and a Podiatrist who come to the Clinic every month for resident appointments.

Above all, we’re committed to your complete wellness – physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, professional, and social. In fact, we’re shaping a comprehensive wellness program with all levels of care for SVWC residents and staff. Our goal? To promote senior health and well-being by offering creative ways – both structured and flexible – for you to live life fully and stay well longer.
