Title: Bistro Attendant

Job Summary: Responsible for the operation of the bistro, to include operating the cash register, restocking, food service, opening and closing cleaning duties, etc. Maintains positive customer relations with clientele.

Required Education, Experience, Skills, Licensure:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Obtains employment and annual tuberculosis testing as required by Virginia State Licensure
  • Must attend annual mandatory in-services required by the state licensure and all other mandatory in-services and/or meetings required by other regulatory agencies and/or by SVWC
  • Follows and supports the policies and procedures established by SVWC

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent customer service for clientele to create an enjoyable dining experience
  • Restocks bistro for opening, closing and throughout operating hours to include drinks, food, utensils, napkins, condiments, etc.
  • Operates the cash register in accordance with bistro cash-handling procedures
  • Performs assigned opening duties, such as turning on equipment, preparing food, opening cash register, etc.
  • Performs assigned closing duties, such as turning off equipment, wiping counters, vacuuming, cleaning equipment, etc.
  • Follows and supports the policies and procedures established by the Dining Services Department
  • Attends mandatory department meetings
  • Maintains a professional, clean and neat appearance according to the Dining Services dress code
  • Dresses in appropriate, clean and complete uniform,
  • Fills out temperature logs daily for specific areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Must be able to visually identify and discern printed words on either typewritten pages or on a computer screen
  • Must be able to identify and differentiate colors
  • Must have depth perception within normal ranges


  • Must be able to respond to spoken words and other auditory sounds, including the ringing of telephones or beepers and monitors
  • Must be able to respond and communicate orally by telephone


  • Must be able to push and maneuver carts loaded with weights of approximately 75 pounds
  • Must be able to lift over 10 pounds occasionally and 5 pounds repetitively from ground level to shoulder height

Tools and Equipment:

  • Must be able to use, operate and interpret information from equipment in work area
  • Must be able to maneuver a 100-pound bus cart for two hours of an eight-hour shift


  • Must be able to verbally communicate in the English language directly and over the telephone and be understood

Range of Motion:

  • Must have mobility in all parts of the body: walking, bending, lifting, reaching above head and using hands
  • Must be able to kneel or squat for two hours of an eight-hour shift
  • Must be able to walk continually for seven hours
  • Must have manual dexterity and fine motor skills (typing, computer, etc.)
  • Must be able to stand and/or be mobile by walking for 95 percent of an eight-hour shift
  • Must be able to sit for 5 percent of the work day

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be able to work overtime
  • Must be able to work a rotating shift
  • Must be able to work on call
  • Must be able to utilize or wear protective equipment or apparel in accordance with OSHA standards
  • May be required to work near or with voltages (up to 480 volts AC)
  • May have to work in a hot (over 90 degrees Fahrenheit) or cold (under 0 degrees Fahrenheit) environment

  • Must have the mental capacity to fulfill the requirements of the job, including problem-solving, logic, communication and numerical calculations
  • Must be able to read and understand written instructions in English
